Desert Oasis Comics – Stirring Imaginations

As August approaches and the wait for Comic Con Palm Springs gets shorter by the day we turn our attention to the people and events that are making this one stellar event. For the young and the old comic books take the reader into a fantastical world of righting the worlds wrongs and stirring imaginations beyond life’s everyday boredom. Who doesn’t remember long trips in their parent’s car with nothing to do except read? How many millions of comics made their way across the country and into the hearts of those reading them. As the young grew into adulthood the fascination didn’t fade and hence we revive the glory of yesteryear, bask in the present of modern technology and media while paying homage to the comic characters and artists alike.
One person who has made comics a life passion Sid Johnson owner of Desert Oasis Comics in Palm Desert. Sid is an avid comic book collector and will have an booth at Comic Con Palm Springs, August 25th – 27th, 2017. He was also present at last year’s convention. He turns his 9-5’s into a journey for customers who flock to the store for its large comic book selection and special events.
Desert Oasis Comics celebrated 5 years in business this past January and what a month it was. On January 28th Chip Zdarsky writer of Star Lord, Howard the Duck, Jughead and the artist of Sex Criminals made an appearance at the store for a signing and sketch party. The turnout was huge and Sid described the day as “absolutely amazing.” Often comic book personalities show up at the store and Desert Oasis Comics Facebook page will always post these events. Some are planned while others are drop-in surprises. Visit the Facebook page and press “like” for announcements of all the new comics coming out, special events and more.
Coming up May 7 is Desert Oasis Comics free comic book day. While supplies last, customers are able to receive 1 free comic book and chose from 50-70 titles. A second free comic book will go to customers who buy something and they can also receive a third comic book if they come dressed in a costume. If customers buy $10 worth of merchandise they can collect up to 10 free comics on this one day only. There is always a huge turnout for this annual event so mark the date.
Sid Johnson talks with excitement when he describes his store, the comics and his love for his customers who often become friends. There’s nothing like doing what you love and spreading the joy. Old comics, new comics, rare comics, Sid provides all of these and is always happy help the new reader or collector out with ideas and suggestions. The comic book craze is still a buzz for many and now is the time to feed that obsession because you are not alone. Gear up and get ready to suit up ™ because the fun really starts August 25th – 27th here in beautiful downtown Palm Springs. The convention center is the perfect place for all the carefully planned events. You will find countless things to occupy your enthusiasm and while your there do drop by Sid Johnson’s Desert Oasis Comics booth. Sid had an booth at last year’s Comic Con Palm Springs and he’ll share his excitement and knowledge with all who drop by. A huge turnout is expected so buying tickets early is suggested.
